A bicycle plan is critical in developing a network of trails, bike lanes and signed routes in an area. WABA is working with local advocates on identifying funding for a bicycle plan for Fairfax County.
Local advocates with Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling have already identified the best bike routes in Fairfax which are included in a new bike map for the county. WABA and FABB are urging the county to focus bike improvements along these routes.
If the new HOT lane bridges over the beltway are not designed with cyclist and pedestrian access, the result would be significant barriers to biking and walking for the foreseeable future.
Amenities for cyclists, such as secure places to park, is important to the bike-friendliness of a community. Using new changes to the DC zoning code as a model WABA hope to have Fairfax County develop new bike parking requirements in new and existing developments.
