DC's Bike Ambassador Program

The benefits that cycling brings to a city are many.  Whether it’s reduced congestion, improved personal and environmental health, or safer streets for all road users, bicycling is becoming an integral part of the transportation system in Washington, DC.  In our continuing efforts to make Washington, DC a world-class city for cycling, the District Department of Transportation and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, are pleased to announce the creation of a new DC Bike Ambassador program.  This program is designed to promote safe cycling for fun, fitness and transportation among DC residents and visitors alike.

The DC bike ambassadors make appearances at local events, teach bike commuting clinics and distribute bike maps and bike safety information all with the goals of:

  • Getting more DC residents and visitors to try cycling for fun, fitness and transportation.

  • Educating drivers, cyclists and pedestrians on the safe use of roads and trails.

  • Reducing barriers that prevent more people from cycling.

  • Providing resources to make the choice to go by bike an easy one.
