District of Columbia

WABA facilitates the Education and Encouragement pieces of District of Columbia Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Program by maintaining a cargo van containing bikes, helmets, and all materials necessary for delivery of the program. WABA staff schedule and teach classes in DC elementary schools during the school year and in DC Department of Recreation Centers in the summer months. Special ABCs of Family Biking Class Available in Washington!


WABA is no longer under contract with the state of Maryland to provide Youth Education in public schools. If you have any questions about the program or future opportunities to bring bike education to Maryland schools, please contact the Maryland State Highway Administration's Transportation Alternatives program by phone at (410) 545-5675, fax at (410) 209-5025, or email at JSilwick@sha.state.md.us.


WABA staff currently schedule and administer the bicycle education program in Alexandria and Arlington in the form of bicycle rodeos with through sponsorship of Arlington county and Alexandria city government.
