Want to use your bike to get where you need to go? Learn to safely share the road with cars, other bikes, and pedestrians. These classes are currently sponsored by city transportation Departments and are provided free of charge.
WABA offers two types of CCC classes:
Note: New Format, CCC1 is 2 hours classroom and on-bike
CCC2 is 4 hours classroom and on-bike
CCC1 covers basic bicycling information and on-bike skills such as: bicycle selection, fit, inspection, gearing, cadence, clothing, accessories, and bike handling basics like starting and stopping, riding straight, scanning and signaling. Half of this class will be in the classroom and half will be on-bike practicing bike handling skills. You are invited to bring your bicycle to participate or if you do not bring a bike, you can watch others demonstrate bike handling skills. This class is a recommended pre-requisite for CCC2.
CCC2 covers more advanced cycling techniques such as: vehicular cycling principles, roadway positioning, lane changes, turns and parking lot drills to learn avoidance maneuvers. Half of this class will be in the classroom and half will be on-bike practicing avoidance maneuversand finally a supervised group ride on open streets with motorized traffic. Participants must bring their own bikes, helmets, and water. Participants will be required to sign liability waivers. CCC1 is the recommended prerequisite for this class (all classes before 2010 count as CCC1).

Allen Muchnick, a League of American Bicyclists (LAB) Cycling Instructor, will teach Road-1 (Cycling with Confidence), LAB's essential, comprehensive, and very practical 9-hour cycling skills course; Bicycling 101, a 3-hr classroom presentation derived from Road-I; and two three-hour bicycle maintenance courses (one lecture/demonstration and one all hands-on) through local adult education programs in Northern Virginia. All classes meet on weekday evenings from 6:30-9:30 PM.
Two Northern Virginia adult education programs are separately sponsoring four cycling skills and bicycle maintenance courses taught by Allen Muchnick, a nationally certified League of American Bicyclists (LAB) Cycling Instructor. Except as noted otherwise, all classes meet on weekday evenings from 6:30-9:30 PM.

* Bicycling 101, a 3-hour discussion of bicycling basics for new and intermediate riders.
* Cycling with Confidence (LAB Traffic Skills 101), the essential, comprehensive, and very practical 9-hour cycling skills course for *all* bicyclists;
* Bicycle Maintenance & Repair, a 3-hour lecture and demonstration; and
* Bicycle Mechanics Workshop, a 3-hour hands-on sequel to any course listed above.
