Don't pack up your ski goggles just yet! Bid farewell to the chilly winter months with WABA's first organized bike ride of the season. Join 500 winter warrior bicyclists of all ages and experience levels at the House of Sweden on the morning of Sat., March 22 for a fun, noncompetitive ride through D.C. and Maryland.
Fifteen-mile, 31-mile, and 59-mile routes are available (please note these route lengths are approximate). At the ride's end, all riders are invited to the House of Sweden for blueberry soup, a Swedish tradition.
The Vasa Ride is WABA's bicycle-themed tribute to Sweden's legendary Vasaloppet, the world's longest-running cross-country ski race. Since 1922, thousands from around the world participate in this 90-kilometer race on the first Sunday in March. The Vasaloppet commemorates the trial of Gustav Eriksson Vasa, Sweden's 16th century renegade king who led the rebellion to free Sweden after a long and dangerous pursuit on skis.
Why the warm blueberry soup? For nearly a century, blåbärssopp has been served during the Vasaloppet to keep riders warm and energized. Many thanks to House of Sweden for preparing blueberry soup for WABA's Vasa riders.
