Bike Camp!
Week 1: DC Explorers Bike Camp – July 22-26
DC Explorers Bike Camp is a free, weeklong summer bike camp for students in grades 3-8. Campers will learn how to explore DC by bike using the many trails available and learning about how to navigate safely in an urban environment.
Campers will:
- Learn safe bike riding skills
- Practice basic bike maintenance
- Explore DC bike trails and learn about trail maintenance with the WABA Trail Rangers
- Learn about bike advocacy with WABA’s Advocacy Team
- Daily group bike rides to fun destinations
- Practice multi-modal transportation using Metro
Week long day camp will be held at the DC Dream Center.
Campers may use their own bikes and helmets or we can provide a free rental bike and helmet.
Snacks and lunch will be provided.
*There is a $50 refundable registration fee to hold a spot; no cost to attend.
Week 2: Earn-a-Bike Camp – July 28-Aug 2
Earn-a-Bike Camp is a free, weeklong summer bike camp open to students in grades 6 through 12, this camp offers a unique opportunity to learn essential bike repair skills while having campers earn a bike for themselves or a family or community member.
Campers will dive into the world of bicycle mechanics, gaining practical knowledge and confidence to maintain and repair their bikes. This camp will cover:
- Fixing a flat
- Brake adjustments and brake pad replacements
- Derailleur adjustments, chain replacement, and drivetrain maintenance
- Bearings systems
- and safe city riding.
The week long day camp will be held at the DC Dream Center.
Snacks and lunch will be provided.
