I’m KT Beckman-Gotrich, WABA’s new Events Coordinator! I’m proud to make this work another deep root in my relationships with DC. My all time favorite bike was my pink banana seat bicycle—gifted by a neighbor when I was 7. My REI Coop e2.2, which has been perfect for rides around the neighborhood with my kiddo, is a close second.
Raised in Woodridge, VA, I moved to DC in 2012 and have been loving city and trail biking ever since. After graduating with a BA in Art History from James Madison University, I juggled both an internship with the Smithsonian American Art Museum and an AmeriCorps service year teaching English as a Second Language. Learning alongside students from backgrounds and circumstances similar to my family, I was compelled to commit my career to people over objects. I then served Adult English educators and students for over 14 years through student-centered instruction and assessment. Witnessing students’ barriers to success and remembering what my own family has had to overcome, I wanted to further support community members through relationships and power building. I most recently organized at ACLU-DC and with the Free DC Campaign.
My career focuses on bringing people together to learn, grow, enjoy, and create the world we want together. In off hours, you can find me canvassing together with my kiddo, playing with friends at local parks, tending my garden, painting big projects, or in the kitchen baking. Now joining WABA’s Development and Communications team, I’m continuing to grow the signature rides as well as more community-based events for all in the area who walk, bike, and access transit.
