RE: Gaithersburg application for Transportation Alternatives Program funding for the Olde Towne Shared Use Path
April 2, 2024
Dear Mr. Kile,
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) is pleased to endorse Gaithersburg application for Transportation Alternatives Program funding for the Olde Towne Shared Use Path, to advance creation of connections between the Olde Towne Train Station and Washington Grove. This project will continue the City’s progress improving connectivity and safety for Gaithersburg pedestrians and bicyclists.
WABA works to transform the capital region by improving the conditions for people who bike. Biking can and should be an equitable, safe, low-cost, time-saving, and sustainable way to navigate our region for all residents and visitors.
The Gaithersburg project will be a next step based on a recent Transportation-Land Use Connections grant-funded study of different routes from the Olde Towne Train Station to Washington Grove. This connection would help allow the community to connect from the Olde Towne train station to Washington Grove.
Montgomery County has a project that they are currently working on to bring a path to Washington Grove, which ultimately will connect to the Shady Grove metro.
WABA supports the City’s efforts to advance non-motor-vehicle connectivity. If this project is approved, WABA will be pleased to support the work.
Sincerely,
Seth Grimes
