We’re thrilled to share that Gearin Up is now a part of WABA. We are seeking skilled Part-Time Bicycle Mechanics to join our team. In this role, you’ll not only handle advanced bicycle repair and tune-ups, but also play a crucial part in our ongoing repair clinics and the beloved Earn-A-Bike program.

The Team
As a Part-Time Bicycle Mechanic at Gearin’ Up, you will be part of our dedicated team working under the supervision of the Shop Manager. In the shop, you will work alongside the Shop Manager and volunteers, contributing to a collaborative environment focused on bicycle maintenance, repair, and education. This role is essential in fostering community engagement and upholding the high standards of WABA’s cycling initiatives.
The Job
Bicycle Maintenance and Repair:
- Inspect and diagnose customers’ bicycles for repair issues
- Write work orders and document parts used and labor performed
- Perform professional tune-ups
- Perform professional-level repairs
- Replace worn-out or damaged components with high-quality replacements.
- Ensure that repairs meet minimum safety standards
Refurbishing Bicycles for Sale:
- From our inventory of donations, identify bikes suitable for refurbishment
- Value used bikes and parts for resale
Customer Interaction:
- Greet customers and identify their repair or maintenance needs
- Help customers with selecting a bicycle or part
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing questions and concerns
- Be able and willing to shop customers how to perform basic maintenance on their bikes
Additional Responsibilities:
- Train youth mechanics and answer their questions
- Work with volunteers to strip down bicycles for refurbishment
- Be familiar with the floor inventory and shop service offerings
- Be familiar with Lightspeed POS and inventory management systems, as well as Square POS
- Ensure a welcoming environment for customers, volunteers, and other employees
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a bicycle mechanic in a shop or co-op environment.
- In-depth knowledge of bicycle components, repair techniques, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Organized and attentive to details.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently while documenting work.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferences:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or training position.
- Knowledge of different bicycle types, including road bikes, mountain bikes, and hybrids, and their specific maintenance needs.
- Proficiency in using advanced tools and equipment.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver bicycles.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools
Compensation:
- This is a part-time position of 16 to 20 hours a week.
- The schedule will include weekends and some evenings based on business needs.
- The pay range is $23 – $25 per hour.
