Anyone who knows me knows that if I am rolling up to a function, it’s usually on a silver Capital Bikeshare E-Bike. I have my own (acoustic) bike, but over the years I have been won over by CaBi’s speed and convenience. For short distance journeys across my neighborhood in DC, I believe that taking a CaBi is the fastest, and most fun, way to get around. Whipping through the side streets of Park View and up and down the Metro Branch Trail, I interact so much more with the city I live in than if I was in a car, or on a bus, or on the Metro. When you’re on a bike, you get to wave to your neighbors, see the new mural, or even stop to grab a fig or a paw paw if the season is right.
The joy of riding a CaBi is the joy of riding a bike: feeling the wind in your hair, coasting down a hill, peddling to your music, sharing smiles and eye-rolls in the bike lane with other commuters. But CaBi comes with amazing bonuses: the e-assist lets you get to your destination much quicker without breaking a sweat, and CaBi’s 800+ stations around the region allow you the freedom to get from point A to B, point A to B to C, point A to B to C to D and so on without worrying about locking up your bike. In short, CaBi joins all the joys of biking with all the joys of public transit.
I believe Capital Bikeshare is the best bikeshare system in the country. It’s by far the cheapest, ridership continues to be at an all-time high, and the bikes are typically in great working condition (shoutout to WABA’s union siblings who keep CaBi running!). Those who take part in it know how valuable it is for our city — it’s a community of riders!
The more people we get on bikes, the stronger our biking community is. And the more people using Bikeshare, the stronger the system becomes.
