On Sunday, November 15, 2026, communities across the country will join a global call to action for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. This somber, annual event brings communities together to honor those who have lost their lives or were seriously injured in traffic crashes and to support the families and communities left behind. There are several local observances of World Day of Remembrance:

  • Northern Virginia:
    • 10:30am in Fairfax: Join a gathering led by Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets to hear from individuals who have experienced road traffic violence, as well as elected leaders, law enforcement officials, and school board members reflecting on how we can do better.
  • Washington, DC:
    • 1:00pm: Ride For Your Life brings together families, friends, advocates, and elected officials to remember those we’ve lost, and turn collective action into meaningful change.
    • 2:00pm: Gathering & Rally with Families for Safe Streets chapters from across the National Capital region and organizers from Ride For Your Life. Together, we will build a community memorial. We encourage participants to bring an extra photo print or object honoring their loved one.
  • Montgomery County, MD:
    • 5:30pm in Wheaton: Join a community gathering, including an opportunity for all individuals to speak about their own or a loved one’s experiences with traffic violence.

Too many of us have been impacted by traffic violence. World Day of Remembrance is an opportunity to pause, remember, and consider what we can all do to make it safer for everyone to get around, whether walking, biking, rolling, or driving. We hope you can find a way to observe the day to honor loved ones and to help build momentum for change.
