Arizona Ave. NW had protected bike lanes prior to recent street resurfacing – they were installed just last year – but DDOT proposes to eliminate them because a few individuals don’t like the look of flex posts. DDOT would replace them with unprotected bike lanes. We object! The proposed redesign will make the bike lanes much less safe for cyclists. Our city should not compromise safety in the name of subjective aesthetics.
There’s a formal way to tell DDOT what you think. Please use this action to send an e-mail message to Greg Billing, DDOT’s Bikeways Branch Manager, asking DDOT to reject the work described in Notice of Intent NOI-25-160-CPD. Comments will be accepted through July 25, but it’s best to get your comments in now. Personalize or rewrite our suggested text however you wish, so long as you reinforce the key message: DDOT must restore the Arizona Ave. NW protected bike lanes.
WABA wrote DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum on June 26, asking DDOT to withdraw the NOI because the proposed protected bike-lane removal is counter to DDOT policy and plans as laid out in moveDC, the city’s official transportation plan. You can read our letter and arguments here. However, we can’t count on DDOT to take that action, hence the need for public opposition to the work outlined in the NOI-25-160–CPD.
Thank you for speaking out.
