DDOT has posted a public survey on the Missouri Avenue NW Trail Connection project. Please respond and, of course, boost the protected bike lane options. The comment deadline is July 17, 2026.
The trail connection runs on Missouri Ave NW, heading west from 14th St. NW into Rock Creek Park. It will link the planned Military Road Trail, a 1.2-mile path intersecting the park’s Beach Drive Trail and heading west to Oregon Ave./Glover Road NW, to the District’s bicycling network east of Rock Creek Park.
Both 16th–17th St. concepts feature two-way protected bike lanes. Good! One would repurpose the existing parking lane. (We note that each of the houses between 14th and 17th Sts. has a driveway, and most will fit two parked cars.) The other — surely more expensive to build — removes 130′ of median to retain six street parking spaces. Our suggestion, if you favor Concept 2, retaining parking, is to comment that your support is contingent on there being no delays to project funding, design, and construction.
There are three concepts for the 14th St.–16th St. segment. Concepts 1 and 2 include two-way protected bike lanes. Please select one of them. Concept 2 would retain 11 street-parking spaces, requiring right-of-way acquisition from the National Park Service, so if you favor this option, please comment that your support is contingent on there being no delays to project funding, design, and construction. Concept 3 does not include protected — or any — bike lanes. It’s not for us.
Please voice your support for safe cycling to and across Rock Creek Park, via DDOT’s survey, making it clear that you favor two-way protected bike lanes for both segments of the Missouri Avenue NW Trail Connection.
