The District Dept. of Transportation’s Strategic Bikeways Plan (SBP) priorities survey is open through December 31, 2025. Please visit DDOT’s Strategic Bikeways Plan Comment Map and record your own strategic bikeways priorities. Here’s a map image with a red circle around the comment button in the upper-right of the screen. Locate the point you’d like to enter, hit that button, fill out the mini-form, and click Post.

WABA’s top priorities city-wide – we’d be thrilled if you’d mark them on the map yourself, along with your own other priorities – include:

1. Connecticut Avenue between Western Ave. NW (Chevy Chase Circle) and California St. NW protected bike lanes – a unique commercial-residential corridor crossing Ward 3.
2. A Q / R cross-town protected bikeway between Sheridan Circle NW (northwest of Dupont Circle) and the Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT) – a key mid-city east-west connector, crossing Wards 2 & 5.
3. Converting painted bike lanes on 14th St. NW to protected bike lanes between Aspen St. NW and downtown DC – hardening a popular north-south route through Ward 1 & 4.
4. Kansas Avenue protected bike lanes between Eastern Ave. NE and 13th St. NW, the entire Kansas Ave. corridor, including improvements to Sherman Circle NW – an important Ward 4 commuter route.
5. Bladensburg Road NE protected bike lanes between Benning Road NE and Eastern Ave. NE – crossing Ward 5, implementing the preferred concept put forward in 2023 Bladensburg Road NE Multimodal Safety and Access Study.
6. Massachusetts Avenue protected bike lanes between 1st St. NE and 19th St. SE, through Columbus Circle, Lincoln Park, and Stanton Park – an arterial route across Ward 6.
7. Benning Road SE protected bike lanes between Southern Ave. SE and the Benning Road bridge– a key southeast-northeast connector and route across the Anacostia River.
8. Martin Luther King Ave.-South Capitol St. SE protected bike lanes, on MLK between the 11th St. Bridge and across Malcolm X Ave. SE and then on South Capitol St. to Southern Ave. SE– a unique Ward 8 north-south connector.

Please share your thoughts with DDOT via their Strategic Bikeways Plan Comment Map. They plan to draft the plan in the first quarter of 2026, influenced by your comments and feedback received at the eight public workshops they hosted in November and December, 2025, one in each of DC’s eight wards.

The plan will identify bike lanes and trails that DDOT intends to build over the next five years. Anything that’s not in the plan will be hard to get built. So our job is to make sure that the plan is as big and bold as possible!
