The Historic Anacostia Block Association (HABA) is partnering with the Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA) to get out the vote on Election Day for the Ward 8 Special Election.
Join us on Election Day—Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.— for complimentary coffee and tea at Sweet Tooth Cafe before a three (3) block walk to Union Temple Baptist Church to cast your vote for next Ward 8 Councilmember.
If you have already voted by mail, drop box, or in-person at an early voting center, we encourage you to still meet up with us on Election Day morning for a fun social meet up and to show your support for voting rights in DC.
Details:
- 8:00 a.m. Meet at Sweet Tooth—2323 Martin Luther King Boulevard SE
- 8:30 a.m. Walk
- 8:45 a.m. Voting at Union Temple Baptist Church—1225 W ST SE
This event will take place rain or shine.
Who Can Vote?
- If you are a Ward 8 resident, including if you are a non-U.S. Citizen, you are eligible to vote and may register online or at any voting center including on Election Day.
- Eligible voters can vote at any voting center location in DC.
Why Should You Participate?
- Support the candidate that you believe will best represent W8. W8 has been without a DC Council representative since February 2025.
- Use your voice / your vote. Elected officials and candidates closely monitor what communities vote and their priorities.
- Stretch those legs. Walking is a great low impact way to meet your health and fitness goals.
- Meet your neighbors. Gather with and meet fellow community members.
- Support a local business. Sweet Tooth is one of the newest sit-down food establishments in Historic Anacostia. Food options will be available for purchase.
By registering for this event you agree to follow WABA's Code of Conduct.
