Black History in Motion is a self-guided ride through Washington DC, running February 14-28. It’s an invitation to move through the city with intention, finding points on the map and engaging with Black history where it actually unfolded.
The route includes not only sites like the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, Marvin Gaye Park, and Barry Farm, but also current Black-owned businesses like Grounded Cafe and Addie Love’s Soul, because sustaining Black spaces is part of the work. These places all tell stories of resistance, creativity, survival, and community power, past and present.
Start wherever you want. Ride, walk, or roll at your own pace. Take a single day or all fifteen. At each stop, take a photo, reflect, and share what you’re learning by tagging or DMing us.
Visit all seven stops to receive a shoutout and to be entered into the drawing for our grand prize: a bike from Gearin’ Up Bicycles. The real goal, however, is bigger than winning a bike: let’s learn to move through DC with awareness, to honor Black history beyond a single month, and to remember that these stories live on the trails, neighborhoods, and communities we’re in every day.
