Come out on July 18th to the Hains Point Hoopla to celebrate the public space and enjoy the park, meet neighbors, share/eat some food, and bike, run, walk as many loops as you’d like around the park (loops are optional).
The Hains Point Hoopla is a community celebration: part picnic potluck and part choose-your-own-outdoor-adventure. We’ll be out from 10am to 12pm. Please note that several forecasts for today are showing that conditions are still unhealthy for sensitive groups while others show unhealthy levels. Please check the conditions and choose to attend or not attend based on what is best for you. We need everyone to stay safe and comfortable. We will have masks onsite if you need one.
Stop by at 10:30am to hear from U.S. Senator Ankit Jain, At-Large Councilmember Robert White, presumed At-Large Councilmember Elissa Silverman, and the DC Preservation League. Join these leaders for a short walk if you’d like.
What to expect:
- Bike, walk, run, birdwatch, or fish or maybe all of the above, for as long or as little as you’d like.
- Bring a food or nonalcoholic beverage to share with 4-5 people. We’ll bring PB&J supplies and some snacks to share. We’ll send out a sign-up list with everyone who registers to track what to bring.
- Meet great neighbors from across the region who also want to preserve public space at Hains Point and push back against the takeover of more of our public lands and resources.
- Demonstrate to federal and local officials what this place means to DMV residents and that we will not sit idly by while one of the great public spaces in DC is threatened.
There are limited parking spots so we encourage you to bike, take transit, or walk to the park. This event will happen rain or shine, barring severe weather. See the map below for details.
This event is led by WABA with support from Save East Po and 50501 DC.
