Join the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and the Ward 8 Bike Alliance for a casual Ward 8 Washington DC bike ride, Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, starting at 9 am.
This 7 mile guided, no-drop bike ride will explore several neighborhoods and types of bike infrastructure around Congress Heights, St. Elizabeth’s, Navy Yard, and Anacostia.
We’re aiming for a fun Ward 8 community activity. Our starting point is the Congress Heights Metro station, meeting near the elevator on the north side of Alabama Avenue SE.
We’ll check out the fabulous Sycamore and Oak and take a loop around the St. Elizabeth’s campus, and then take Malcolm X Ave and the Shepherd Parkway Trail north and cross the Anacostia River via the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. In case you’ve never stopped on the bridge: The views are fantastic. We’ll ride past Nationals Park and then east on the M Street SE protected bike lanes past the Navy Yard. We’ll recross the river via the 11st Street SE bridge back to Anacostia. Our destination will be Grounded Cafe in Historic Anacostia, at 1913 MLK Ave SE.
After a pause, we’ll ride to the Anacostia Metro station and then back to the Congress Heights Metro station. If you wish to avoid a long uphill, you can take your bike on Metro and travel one stop to Congress Heights.
