Please join the DC YIMBYs, the Ward 8 Bicycle Alliance, and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) for a guided Ward 8 community bike ride, Saturday afternoon, May 16, 2026. We’ll launch at 1:30 pm from the Congress Heights Metro station, with the fabulous Anacostia River Festival, which runs 2-6 pm that afternoon, as our final destination. The ride’s about 9 miles, casual pace, no drop, with some fantastic DC views along the route.

DM YIMBYs’ tag line captures the theme of this ride: “Yes to People. Yes to Housing.” We’ll visit recently redeveloped sites in Ward 8 – possibly DC’s most underinvested ward – and locations of planned/potential future growth. We’re planning interpretative stops that will help us better understand local possibilities and concerns. Which areas? Congress Heights and the former St. Elizabeth’s campus. THEARC. Barry Farm. The Bridge District. More.

The Tour Ward 8 ride is free and open to all. Rules:

  • Each rider must be individually registered.
  • You must wear a helmet.
  • Children aged 11 or under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Riders will not ride ahead of the lead bike.
  • Riders must follow instructions given by any ride marshal.
  • Kids 7 and under should ride on an adult’s bike as a passenger.

Please register, and if you have questions or concerns, please contact WABA DC organizer Seth Grimes at seth.grimes@waba.org. Please also get in touch if you’re able to help as a marshal/guide.

By registering for this event you agree to follow WABA's Code of Conduct.
