Five in Stride Campaign

The Five in Stride Campaign invites you to bring five friends and family members with you to make new connections with community members and community places through engaging events ranging from walking, hiking, biking, bird watching, art creating, and more!

We’re focused on elevating the great outdoor resources that DC’s Wards 7 and 8 have, including Anacostia Park and the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, Oxon Run Park and Trail, Marvin Gaye Trail, and more!

Upcoming Events:

We’re hosting this campaign to address the disparate health outcomes that residents of DC’s Wards 7 and 8 experience, compared to residents across the District, including:

  • Higher prevalence of obesity1
  • Lower rates of physical activity2, and
  • Shorter life expectancy at birth1.

To address these trends, the Anacostia Parks and Community Collaborative (APACC), the Capital Trails Coalition, and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association are working with organizations and community groups to encourage at least 1,000 Ward 7 and Ward 8 residents to explore the great local trails and parks to improve our health and build community connections. **Everyone is invited to participate – and participants will be eligible to win prizes at select events!**

Want your event to be highlighted as part of the campaign? Email kalli.krumpos@waba.org to discuss.
