Sharing the region’s safe streets lessons and stories on the Hill

On June 8, Executive Director Ludwig Gaines headed to Capitol Hill to testify before the U.S House Highways and Transit subcommittee.

The hearing focused on Federal Highway Administration’s safety programs and how new funding and policy changes in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act could help to stem the startling rise in traffic deaths and crashes over the last few years.

The committee is particularly concerned by the disparate equity impacts of dangerous road design on vulnerable road users. WABA shared our perspective on traffic safety in the DC region, regional efforts to improve safety performance, victim stories, and lessons that the committee can take from these local examples to apply nationally.
