I Bike, I Buy Stuff Campaign Kickoff

Wednesday, September 6, 2023, 6:00 PM

Cleveland Park Library, DC

Meetup

As debate around the Connecticut Ave Protected Bike Lane and Traffic Safety Project ramps up this fall, WABA and the Ward 3 Bicycle Advocates (W3BA) are teaming up to remind Connecticut Ave business owners that their customers are people who bike. Join us on Wednesday, September 6th in Cleveland Park to kick off this campaign!

If you live, work, or shop on Connecticut Avenue in Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, Van Ness or Chevy Chase, join us! Starting in September, we will be shopping at Connecticut Ave businesses, reminding staff of how we got there, passing off materials, and engaging them on social media to say “I Bike, I Buy Stuff!” It’s easy to do. We just need you!

To get started, join WABA and Ward 3 Bicycle Advocates on Wednesday, September 6 at 6pm at the Cleveland Park Library to learn about the campaign, grab some supplies, and join the push to show businesses on Connecticut Ave that improving bike access is great for their bottom line. After a brief presentation and workshop, we will head to a local business to get to know each other better and plan next steps.

Let us know you will be there. Sign up below.

We know, from daily experience and studies, that customers walk, bike, and take transit to local stores and restaurants, often more frequently than they drive. Yet, surveys consistently show that shop owners overestimate how many of their customers arrive by car. Business owners are important stakeholders for street redesigns, but it is important that they have all the facts. Safe streets are great for business.
