ACT NOW to support Virginia bicycling bills! Our priority bike safety bills will be heard in House Transportation subcommittees starting THIS WEEK! Will you join us in urging legislators to support these critical bicycling bills?

The Virginia Bicycling Federation, a coalition of bicycling advocates and organizations across the Commonwealth including the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Bike Walk RVA, is supporting an ambitious bicycling safety agenda during this year’s legislative session that began January 10th.

This year could be THE YEAR for the Safety Stop (HB 1077), expanding two-abreast riding and clarifying safe lane positions for bicyclists (HB 1266), and allowing people on bikes to proceed with the WALK signal at intersections (HB 657). We need Virginians like you to reach out to your Delegate TODAY!

You will be prompted to send a pre-drafted but editable message to your legislator, customized based on whether they serve on the House Transportation Committee or not. Send early, share widely!

*This action is hosted by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) in partnership with the Virginia Bicycling Federation (VBF). Your contact information may be shared with VBF.

PS – Also on the docket this week and next will be bills establishing an equity-focused e-bike rebate program and supporting schools implementing active transportation alternatives like ‘bike buses’, to be heard by the House Appropriations Committee. You can easily take action and show your support for those bills as well by clicking here.
