Prince George’s Friends: You’re Invited to WABA’s (Free!) May 18 Bike Summit in Suitland

You’re invited to WABA’s 1st Prince George’s County Bike Summit, Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2024 in Suitland, Maryland.

It’s free, there’ll be food, you’ll meet cool people like our friends at Getting It In Cyclists, and you’ll be part of boosting safe streets and Prince George’s bicycling community. Please join us on May 18, 2 pm-5 pm at Creative Suitland.

The summit will open with a WABA welcome (of course!) followed by an opening keynote from Prince George’s County Council Chair Jolene Ivey. Chair Ivey is an ally. We’re looking forward to hearing from her.

Next up will be a roundtable discussion of Bicycling Equity/Building Community Power, moderated by Dan Reed, regional director with Greater Greater Washington. We recognize that northwestern Prince George’s has won a lot of resources and investment. Now let’s make similar safe-streets and bikeways investments in central and southern Prince George’s. And we recognize that power-building is key, particularly for communities of color. Roundtable members will share their personal stories, organizing experiences, and insights, to advance building community power.

The confirmed roundtable participants are Maryland Delegate Ashanti Martinez, Brittney Drakeford from the Capital Market, and WABA board member Angelique Best

Prince George's County Bike Summit 2024

We’ll continue with a presentation on WABA’s Complete State Roads initiative, followed by a panel discussion on Expanding Safe Bicycling in Prince George’s County. We need to work together on building out the bicycle network and making the county’s streets and roads safer for everyone.

Panel participants are Joe Moges, the State Highway Administration’s senior safety officer, Prince George’s Planning (M-NCPPC) bicycling lead Michael Jackson, and advocate Laurie Williams, whose affiliations include Black Women Bike. Kalli Krumpos, who manages the Capital Trails Coalition, will moderate the panel.

We’re baking tabling, food, and networking into the summit. The aim is to build community.

Please join us at the summit. Register now:

Finally, let’s recognize and thank our summit partners, the Capital Market, Creative Suitland, The Coalition for Smarter Growth, and RISE Prince George’s. We’re open to other community partnerships and tabling. Please get in touch.

If you have questions or concerns or would like to support the summit, please contact WABA Maryland Organizer Seth Grimes at seth.grimes@waba.org. Otherwise, see you May 18th?
