Our Adult Learn to Ride class is for participants 18 and older. Our experienced Instructors break the skills down step by step to get you on a bike and rolling in no time. Participants learn to start and stop, balance, glide, pedal and steer a bike and progress at their own pace.

This class is for you if:

  • You have never been on a bicycle before
  • You have not ridden a bicycle in many years
  • You have previously tried to learn how to ride a bicycle, but were unsuccessful

  • Participants should not attend in-person events if they feel sick or show symptoms of illness. WABA will refund registration fees to individuals who cannot attend because they are sick on the day of an event. If you are sick and unable to attend an in-person event, contact WABA for a refund.
  • Outside activities are mask optional. WABA does not require participants to be vaccinated in order to attend class although we strongly encourage all participants to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. If you are:

Lime Ebike Confident City Cycling

Overview

Ebikes are everywhere nowadays, and they are a fantastic option for anyone who is looking to add an extra boost to their ride or get around town more quickly. Confident City Cycling teaches you the skills you need to ride safely and confidently on streets, bike lanes and trails alike. We will cover bike handling skills, hazard avoidance maneuvers, and considerations when riding Ebikes. At the end of class we’ll go on a group ride along streets and trails to try out our newly learned skills!

You can pick up a Lime Ebike on a street corner, or hop on one after coming off the Metro. With all of these bikes only a few steps out your front door, make sure youknow how to be safe and get the most out of your ride!

Drive to the end of Anacostia Drive. You will see the skate pavilion on your right. At the end of the road, the pavement will turn into dirt and you will see a sign that says “service vehicles only”. Ebike Trail Riding Basics – Brought to you by LIME

Overview

Ebikes are everywhere these days, and they are a fantastic option for getting around town quickly, or for when you need to add an extra boost to your ride. WABA’s Ebike Trail Riding Basics class teaches you the skills you need to ride safely, confidently and considerately on our region’s many trails and multi-use paths. We’ll discuss the differences between Ebike and standard bikes and considerations for riding safely.

In this class, we focus on practicing basic bike handling skills such as shifting, scanning, signaling, gradual braking and weaving. Instructors discuss the importance of trail etiquette while riding on a multi-use path and answer any questions that participants may have about trail riding for commuting or recreation.

At the end of class, we’ll go for a group trail ride, where participants put their newly acquired skills to the test. Have any questions? Email us at education@waba.org

Bike Ambassador How to: Fix-a-flat

How to fix a flat

This event has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 15th at 6:00pm to accommodate staff availability. Join the DC Bike Ambassadors as they walk you through how to fix a flat on your bike! Has your bike been sitting because of a punctured inner tube or are you looking to replace an old inner tube or tire? It’s time to get your bike up and running again. We will show you the tools you need and step-by-step on how to get your bike back on the road.
