Introducing Renee Moore, WABA’s new Outreach Director!

Hello! My name is Renée Moore and I’m excited to be back at WABA as the new Outreach Director! You’ve probably seen someone riding in a dress and heels with sunflowers on their bike baskets.

Yep, that’s me!

I didn’t grow up riding a bike. I learned to ride a bike at age 25 on a date. After learning to ride, I decided to join Team in Training and do triathlons. At the time I didn’t own a bike, nor did I know how to swim, but I figured it out and completed several triathlons. Despite riding quite a bit for training, I never once considered biking for transportation until my mother had a stroke in 2014. The parking at GW Hospital was $25 per day so I biked there instead. That 8-mile bike ride cleared my mind and helped me to see the city in a different light so I started a bike group, Bicycling and the City, and a few months later WABA hired me to be the Women & Bicycles Coordinator.

I later became the Vision Zero Coordinator and then the Outreach Coordinator. I loved each role I had here. In 2019, I left WABA to work with BikeArlington. I  planned events such as Winter Bike to Work Day, 9 Bike to Work Day pit stops, and the monthly Bike Book Club. During the pandemic, I began working at the City of Alexandria as a Transit Specialist. My role was to host events, share transit options with residents and employees of the City of Alexandria, manage the Mobile Store, and help build the Capital Bikshare Community Partners program among other things. While there I hosted their first Winter Bike to Work Day, expanded Bike to Work Day, and hosted the first Alexandria Family E-bike Demo.

I love hosting events and educating people about how to make biking a part of their everyday life, not just the commute to and from work. I’m a big fan of hosting events that are fun while sneaking in a bike ride. And I have a special interest in working with the deaf community, people with disabilities, and people over 50.

When I’m not biking I enjoy swimming, aerial yoga, and Nigerian Afrobeats music.
