Enough is enough

We are rallying because people continue to die because the Mayor won’t act. Because the city prioritizes cars over people. Because failing to protect the lives of citizens of the District is unacceptable.

Women who changed history: a bike tour

“It may surprise you to learn that many people, including women, felt that the bicycle was not appropriate for women, and that there was an inherent danger to their health and morality,” said Megan Metcalf, the Women’s, Gender, and LBTQ+ Studies Specialist and Librarian at the Library of Congress. We had a blast proving those […]

Very Specific Thoughts on Dustpans, or How to Help Clean a Local Trail

Bothered by the trash on your ride home every day? See something that should not be there? Grabbing a few items on your way home doesn’t take too long, is easy to place in a nearby public trash can and does make an impact.

Hundreds of people speak up for a better Long Bridge

Hundreds of people spoke up to ask for a better design for Long Bridge. This bicycle and pedestrian connection across the Potomac River is a critical connection that could connect Long Bridge Park in Arlington with the Southwest Waterfront in DC.

Long Bridge needs to be, well, LONGER

DDOT’s Long Bridge project should include a new trail connection linking Crystal City to the SW Waterfront, Hains Point and the Mount Vernon Trail, but the current plans treats the river as the only barrier for people who bike and walk, ignoring two major highways and the tangle of dangerous intersections, congested sidewalks, and freeway ramps that separate DC from Arlington. DDOT can do better, but they need to hear from you.

Buying Bikes on a Budget

Concern about high costs is a common barrier to riding a bicycle for transportation. There’s a stereotype of a “real” cyclist–the skinny dude on a space-age bike, dressed head-to-toe in spandex. Embedded in that image is expensive gear that may be hard to maintain and/or costly to replace. Even articles in the bicycle media often […]

Let’s Talk about E-Bikes

You’ve probably noticed that there are more electric bikes (e-bikes) around than there used to be. Once the domain of DIY tinkerers, bikes with an electric motor to make pedaling easier are now available off the shelf. For folks who are accustomed to bicycling without the help of a battery, this trend can inspire skepticism […]

A Bigger Trail Ranger Team

We’re welcoming more team members to the Trail Ranger team! It has been a busy spring for the DDOT-funded DC Trail Ranger team – we’ve biked about 1,000 miles, removed more than 50 bags of trash from the trail corridors and talked with more than 750 people about trails. In recognition of this impact, the Trail Ranger team is even bigger this summer thanks to additional funding by National Park Service.
