Resounding Regional Support for Trails

The Announcement Ceremony for the Capital Trails Coalition was held on October 13. We were joined by a few fantastic speakers, including Congressman Don Beyer, multiple National Park Service leaders, a representative from REI, and transportation leaders from Maryland and DC who spoke to the importance of coordination and collaboration in the Coalition’s effort to connect the region’s trail network.

Fewer trail obstacles on the Suitland Parkway

It was a busy morning on the Suitland Parkway Trail this past Monday. The Trail Rangers, DDOT Urban Forestry and Earth Conservation Corp’s crew were out giving the trail a fall cleanup. The pole lopers, pruners, bow saws and chainsaw were out in full force as we worked to give more buffer between the trail and the encroaching hillside.

Great News! The Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety bill passed!

On June 28, the DC Council voted unanimously for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Amendment Act of 2016 (B21-335). Mayor Bowser signed the bill in late July. It will become DC law at the end of August after a 30 day period of Congressional review.
